YEAR 1831 (October 1):
-------------------------------
Johann Georg Pfänder/John George Pfaender (OH17) was born in Unter-Wörnitz, Ansbach County, (then Kingdom of) Bavaria, Germany. Who his biological father was is unknown as his mother Anna Barbara Pfänder (OH15) was unmarried at the time of her pregnancy. Anna Barbara was the daughter of Johann Leonhard Pfänder (OH6), a tailor and weaver from Unter-Wörnitz.

The ancestors of the Pfaender family had been Lutheran refugees from Austria who had left their home due to the ongoing relentless Catholic counter-reformation in the middle of the 17th. century. They had found a new home in the area around Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, in the year 1651/52. John George Pfaender was a member of the 8th. Pfaender generation after the immigration of his Austrian ancestor David Pfänder (KF1) - FAG # 204595831.

After his birth in 1831 Johann Georg was baptised in the Lutheran Saint Martin's Church in Unter-Wörnitz.

YEAR 1840:
---------------
When Johann Georg was 10 years old, his mother Anna Barbara Pfänder married the widower Georg Michael Schober, a farmer and carpenter from the tiny settlement of Binsenweiler, Ansbach County, Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany.

After the wedding Johann Georg Pfänder and his mother moved into Georg Michael Schober's household in nearby Binsenweiler. During the next years John George's mother gave birth to 7 more children, so that the family finally consisted of 8 children and their parents.

In the years that followed, the family must have made up their mind to emigrate to the USA. First step was to send their oldest son to the New World:

YEAR 1852:
---------------
Johann Georg Pfänder arrived in New York City in November 1852. The ship documents of the "American Eagle" tell that his profession was carpenter. Johann Georg's mission was to prepare his family's emigration from Germany to the USA. He was 22 years old at the time of his arrival to the New World. To see and experience a town like New York City must have left a deep impression on a young farmer´s boy like Johann Georg Pfänder.

YEAR 1853 (April):
--------------------------
6 month later the whole family was reunited and could settle in Ida Township, Monroe County, Michigan. The new arrivers were John Georg´s stepfather George Michael Schober, his mother Anna Barbara Pfaender-Schober and 7 Schober half-brothers and - sisters who had also departed from Binsenweiler, Bavaria, Germany.

YEAR 1856 (May 3):
-------------------------
4 years after his emigration - John George Pfaender married Anna Maria Strebel (OH17a). She was also of German origin and had come to the US from Auernheim am Hahnenkamm near Treuchtlingen, County of Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen, Kingdom of Bavaria. However Anna Maria died before or after she had given birth to the couples' first child.

YEAR 1859 (February):
------------------------------
Mother Anna Maria Pfaender, nee Strebel, and the unnamed child were interred at the cemetery of Ida Center (East Ida Cemetery).

YEAR 1859 (May 15):
---------------------------
In above year John Georg Pfaender married again. His second wife was the German born Sophia Maria Schmitt (OH17b). She was 22 years old at the time of her wedding.

YEARS 1861 - 1864:
-------------------------
The couple had 3 children together:

Herman George (1861 - 1946)
Christian Frederick (1862 - 1948) - ancestor of the Florida & Tennesse Pfaenders
Louisa Elisabeth (1864 - 1897)

Sophia Maria Pfaender, nee Schmitt, died in 1864 - most likely after she had given birth to her youngest daughter Louisa Elisabeth. The German epitaph on her grave describes how miserable her death must have been. It says (translation): „Sleep softly, as your eyes are closed now. Sweet silence will surround you. Your God did well on you, you wont' feel pain any more."

YEAR 1866 (November 29):
-----------------------------------
2 years after the death of his second wife, John Georg Pfaender married for a third time: His new wife was the 25 years old Louise Burkhardt (OH17c). Also his third wife was of German origin and had been born in the northeastern German province of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

YEARS 1869 - 1874:
--------------------------

John George Pfaender and his wife Louisa, nee Burkhardt, had 4 children together:

Franklin (1869 - 1945)
Auguste Margarethe (1870 - 1880)
Rosella Johanna (1873 - 1965)
George Frederick (1874 - 1948)

Around 1869 the Pfaender family must have moved to Toledo, Ohio, because John George´s children no. 5 to 8 where born there.

YEAR 1895 (June 12):
-----------------------------
John George Pfaender passed away at the age of 63 years in 1895. He found his last rest at Toledo's Forest Cemetery. His descendants partly remained in the area between Detroit, Michigan and Toleo, Ohio. Others moved to Florida and Tennessee, where they are still residing.
