Clarice Lorena Swant, 99, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Monroe Manor in Barron, Wisconsin. She was born July 16, 1913 in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin the daughter of John and Alma (Kastvig) Selvig. She grew up on the homestead farm and attended the Turtle Creek Grade School through the 8th grade.
On October 3, 1937 Clarice married Martin Swant at Chisago City, Minnesota. Clarice traveled to be with Martin while he served in the U.S. Navy.
She worked for a brief time at Clausen's Variety Store. Clarice was a longtime member and active in First Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild, WELCA & Circle. She was also a longtime member of the Legion Auxil1ary.
She enjoyed flower gardening, growing them inside and out. She loved to go fishing and camping and was a member of different camping clubs. Clarice was an avid book reader. She was also a prolific knitter of hats, mittens and booty's donating many of them to the hospital.
Clarice was a caring and loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by; Sons DeWayne (Vivian) Swant of Lino Lakes, MN and Tom Swant of Fitchburgh, WI; grandchildren Andrew, Sarah, Ellea, Martin, Amanda; great-grandchildren Keegan & Adalae; a sister Marian Schutz of Dallas, WI; and a sister-in-law Helen (John) Kosman of Menomonie, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin, 2 brothers Louis & Herbert, 3 sisters Lula Nelson, Alice Swant, Olive Swant.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church in Barron with Rev. Lori Peper officiating. Burial will be in the Wayside Cemetery in Barron. Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church in Barron on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
