TULSA, Okla. - Alberta Jean "Bert" Armstrong, 78, a longtime resident of Wallingford, Vt., died Jan. 1, 2013, in Tulsa, following a long battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born April 1, 1934, in Fair Haven, Vt., the fifth of six children born to Eldridge and Alma (Edgerton) Garvey.
She was raised in Fair Haven and graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1952. She subsequently received a bachelor's and master's degree from Barrington Bible College and Purdue University, respectively.
In 1958 she married the Rev. Richard P. Armstrong. They lived in Peacham and Wallingford, Vt., where they raised a family of four children.
She was an elementary school teacher and a devout Christian.
She taught at the Wallingford Elementary School for several years, and was active in many churches throughout her life, most notably the Congregational Church and Baptist Church, both in Wallingford, Vt., as well as the Harmony Christian Church in Middletown, N.Y., and the West Tulsa United Methodist Church in Tulsa.


A small memorial service will take place in Wallingford, Vt., at a later date, with interment in the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton, Mass.
