Marvin Frank Surles
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 3 at Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Winona at 10 a. m. for Marvin Frank Surles, 60, long-time Montgomery County Superintendent of Education.
Surles, a Kilmichael resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale.
Surles served three terms as county superintendent of education and was standing unopposed for re-election for a fourth term when he died.
He also served five years as principal of Kilmichael High School, was a member and past president of the Winona Lions Club and was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Agnes Surles of Kilmichael, and two sons, Ross Surles of Clarksdale and Reggie Surles of Natchez.
Survivors also include two brothers, Narvel Satchfield of Mounds, La. and Billy Overstreet of Clarksdale, and three sisters Mrs. Ruth Collins of Laurel, Mrs. Mabel Hayes of Mounds and Mrs. Nell O'Bryant of Greenville.
Pallbearers were Darry Joe Weeks, V. H. Boatman, Gregory Tompkins, Jerry Greenlee, Frank Weed and David Eldridge.
