Jan Maria Howard left this life at her home in Houston and joined her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 21st, 2012. Jan was born on April 19th, 1956 to Clarence E. Howard and Wanda Louise Mantooth Howard in Oklahoma City. Jan leaves behind family and friends who love her dearly.
Jan grew up living all over the United States, as her father was an engineer with the Boeing Aerospace Company, where he was transferred frequently. She spent time at Maysville Elementary and High School, and graduated from Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, OK. Jan received a Bachelor of Art degree in Spanish from the University of Tulsa, and a Masters of Education degree from the University of Houston.
Jan's passions in life were teaching Spanish and traveling. She taught for over 25 years, primarily in the Houston area. She enjoyed teaching immensely, and was rewarded with consistently positive feedback from her students and colleagues. She spent many summers traveling in Europe and South America.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Samuel and Donnell Howard, cousin Richard Mantooth, and niece Kelly Howard. Jan's survivors include her brother Stephan Howard and his wife Catherine of Houston, TX; nieces Laura, Katy, Julie Rae and Tara Howard; and nephew Samuel Howard. Others include uncles Robert and Billy Howard and their families, cousins Joe Ray, David, Anne, Carol and Doug Mantooth, as well as numerous Mantooth and Baker relatives in the Lindsay/Maysville area.
A memorial service for Ms. Howard will be held on Wednesday, January 2,2013 at the B.G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay, OK with Rev. Michael Mantooth officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home.
