"Elizabeth aided materially in the rearing of the younger children; in fact, her whole life, along one, lived practically in Moundville, save for brief periods spent in Sparta and Portage, was a life of loving devotion and service to those who needed the care she was able and willing to give.
"Miss Scholes united with the Methodist Church at Moundville in her young womanhood. Her religious life was her particular interest and her Bible her constant companion. She rightly is classed among the pious -- that word being used in the better sense. This piety was the most marked characteristic of her fine life."
Bonnie Scholes's note in the family history ledger book: "A maiden lady, a beautiful character, beloved."
