Actor. Carey, the son of silent actor Harry Carey and actress Olive Carey, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before appearing in more than 100 movies and on numerous television shows from the 1940s through the '80s. He was a member of John Ford's stock company of actors and appeared in 11 of the director's classic Westerns including 'She Wore a Yellow Ribbon' (1949), 'Rio Grande' (1950), 'Wagon Master' (1950), 'The Long Gray Line' (1955), 'The Searchers' (1956), 'Two Rode Together' (1961) and 'Cheyenne Autumn' (1964). Among other films he performed in were 'Shenandoah' (1965), 'The Undefeated' (1969), 'Cahill U.S. Marshal' (1973), 'Take a Hard Ride' (1975), 'Wild Times' (1980), 'Mask' (1985), 'Illegally Yours' (1988), 'Tombstone' (1993) and 'The Last Stand at Saber River' (1997). On TV, some of the shows he was featured on were 'Racket Squad', 'The Public Defender', 'The Lone Ranger', 'The Adventures of Spin and Marty', 'Men Into Space', 'The Rifleman', 'Perry Mason', 'Have Gun Will Travel', 'Bonanza', 'Mannix', 'Doc Elliot' and 'Little House on the Prairie'. Carey, who penned the 1994 memoir, 'Company of Heroes: My Life as an Actor in the John Ford Stock Company', died of natural causes.
