The remains were brought home to Darlington for burial, arriving here on Tuesday evening, accompanied by his sister Sarah and brother Michael Conley, and the last sad rites for the dead were held on Thursday morning last, at the Catholic church of this city, wherein a few short years before Father Conley had celebrated his first Holy Mass surrounded by pomp and joy.
Father Conley was born in Darlington, Nov. 13, 1863, passing the early years of his life in our midst. During the years of 1879 and 1880 he attended the Sisters of Mercy School here and in the autumn of 1880 he entered the Ecclesiastical Seminary of St. Francis de Sales near Milwaukee and commenced his studies for the Holy Priesthood, remaining there eight years.
Having completed the classical and philosophical course of studies at this institution he enterd the St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Md., in the fall of 1889. He was ordained a priest by Cardinal Gibbons, June 20th, 1890. He returned to Darlington to celebrate his first Mass on July 8th of that year.
