George was the son of Edson Ogdon & Effie Melinda (Sparks) Rose.

On Jan. 30/31 & Feb. 1, 1920, James & Effie Grimes, ages 54 & 42, owned a farm in Union, Lewis Co, WA. Her son, George Rose, age 19, lived with them. Also, their daughter, Margaret, 2 years & 6 months.

On April 11, 1930, George A. & Katherine Rose, ages 30 & 26, owned a home valued at $1000 in Parcuvia, Lewis Co, WA. He had a job as a steam shovel engineer. They had a son, Bobbie, age 4 years & 8 months.

Their daughter, Sharon Rose, was born in 1932.

Tragedy struck the family on October 10, 1934, when he was killed while working. Many articles over the following months & year were published concerning this event.

"Accident is Fatal
George Rose, Highway Employee, Killed by Auto Near Chehalis
The Pacific highway south of Chehalis, was the scene of a fatal accident shortly before noon today, in which George Rose, 34, employee of the state highway department, was killed by an automobile driven by Charles R. Hull of Longview.

Hull and W.F. Jones, who was with him, were taken into custody by Deputy Sheriff James Compton and A.E. Rowswell for questioning and are being held at the county jail until after an inquest, ordered by Dr. W.R. Scott, county coroner. the inquest was to be held this afternoon at the Fissel chapel in Chehalis, to which the body of Rose was taken.

Claims Vision Was Obscured
Two men who were working with Rose stated that he was clear of the pavement when he was hit, and that safety signs were posted notifying motorists that men were at work.

Hull, who claimed he was driving only 20 miles an hour, said his vision was obscured by a truck.

Rose's head was crushed, and he died almost instantly. The victim of the accident had been employed by the highway department for some time. He was a native son of Lewis county, having been born at Mossyrock. Survivors are his widow, Katherine; two children, Robert, 7, and Sharon Joan, 2; father, Edson Rose, Mossyrock; brother, Henry, Mossyrock, and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Cameron, in California, and Mrs. Louise Grimes, Chehalis. The family home is on Route 2, Chehalis."
