July 26 1900 Gazette & Farmer's Journal

Diedó At the home of her nephew, Monday. July 9th, 1900, at 3:15 a m., Mrs. Juliett 0. Dodge, of afflictions pertaining to old age. Mrs. Juliett C. Dodge, relict of William Dodge, was born In Little Utica, Feb. 24, 1817, and was the daughter of Sanford and Lucy Dunham, being one and the last of a family of nine children. Of her immediate family, a daughter, Mrs. Estella Snow, of Rochester, and eight grand-children, survive her. Her husband was accidentally killed several years ago. Later her only son also met with death in the same manner. Mrs. Dodge spent the first part of her married life at the home of her birth, and at places adjoining, later going to Michigan, where she resided until the death of her son, some twenty years ago. She was then called to Seneca Falls to care for a brother. Dr. Rufus Dunham, where she stayed until his death, after which she spent some five years with her daughter, a resident of Rochester. Then she came back to the home of her childhood, to nurse her sister-in-law, Mrs. Alanson Dunham. After Mrs. Dunham's death, Mrs. Dodge remained with her brother, Alanson, his feeble and advanced age necessitating her presence, caring for him with a motherly tenderness until his death, which came some two years ago. Again her home was broken up, and it was evident to her relatives here, that she chose to linger near the home of her childhood and youth, and with a perceptible knowledge of this in view, she was given swarm welcome to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace R. Dunham, nephew and niece, who gave to her the best of care in her declining years. Although Mrs. Dodge gradually failed from day to day during the past year, yet it was so slow as to be hardly perceptible, scarcely being confined to the cot until the last day of her life here on earth. Possessed of a Christian spirit, she always met with the trials and afflictions of life like unto the patience of Job. All acts of kindness, in every way, were highly appreciated by her which was very gratifying to the friends who ministered to her during her last sickness.
