Raymond served in WWII as a Seaman, Gunners Mate Second Class in the Pacific Theater aboard the LST-671.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2pm in the chapel of Howard H. Wilson funeral home, Bridgeport, O, for Raymond (Hotbun) Thornton, 42, resident of 39 Mann st, Bridgeport, who died Friday in Martins Ferry hospital, where he had been a patient for the past week. The Rev. M. V. Edgar will officiate and interment will follow in Farmington, O, cemetery.
Born on September 4, 1910, in Martins Ferry, he resided in Bridgeport the past 38 years. He graduated from Bridgeport high school in the class of 1929. He was a Methodist by faith, and operated the Hotbun restaurant on Lincoln ave, Bridgeport, until seven months ago, since which time he had been with the Terminal Cab company. He was prominent in football and other athletics in younger years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Ellen Hendricks Thornton; a son, Raymond Harry Thornton Jr; two brothers, Harry Thornton, of St. Clairsville, and William Thornton, of Martins Ferry; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Tuttle, of Bellaire, and Mrs. Harvy Nalley, of St. Clairsville.
Bridgeport Eagles Lodge 995 will hold services in the funeral home at 8 o'clock tonight.
