Elsie G. Sawtell, a Portland-area resident ofr more than 50 years, died ina Portland care center Wednesday. She was 79. Mrs. Sawtell, who lived at 3654 SE Glenwood St., was born in Culver. She was a member of the Wahkeena Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revoluntion, the Moreland Presbyterian church, South city Republican Club and Eastmoreland Study Club.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Behrends of Portland and Sharon MacFarlane of Oregon City; two brothers, Dayton Grant of Portland and James Grant of Prineville; two sisters, Mabel Cram and Bernice Robertson, both of Portland; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be in Caldwell's Colonial Mortuary at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday with interment in Lincoln Memorial Park.

She is the daughter of John Huston Grant, 1855 – 1904, and Roberta B. Stringer, 1865 – 1942. Her husband was Alfred Rolla Sawtell, 1888 – 1958. She is a descendant of William Grant II and Elizabeth Boone (sister of famed Kentucky explorer, Daniel Boone).
