OBITUARY
Norman W. Carey

Norman W.Carey, prominent business man of Morris for the past 45 years,
died at his Main street home in that village Saturday afternoon at 2:30,
after a lingering illness. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. F. G. Leonard
of the Universalist church, of which the deceased had long been a member,
were held at Sloan's funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock,
with interment in the family plot in the new part of Hillington cemetery.
Norman W. Carey, only child of Ira C. and Frances (Williams) Carey, was
born February 13, 1870, in Middlefield. Soon after his birth, the family
located in Cooperstown and moved a little later to Laurens. When he was
seven years old, they came to Morris where the father opened a meat market
in which business he continued for the remainder of his life.

Early in life, Mr. Carey became interested in photography and in 1893 opened
a gallery in his father's block on Main street, which he operated
successfully until his father's death in 1916, when he took over his meat
market. There he continued the same principles in which he started out in
life and his market was famed for the excellence of its
products.
July 26, 1893, be married Miss Ella Palmatier of Morris, who has faithfully
cared for him throughout his long period of invalidism. To them was born
one child, Mrs. Frank Coyle of Morris, for a number of years the efficient
assistant secretary of the Morris Fair association.
In the passing of Norman Carey, Morris has lost one of its most loyal
citizens. He will be greatly missed, not only by his immediate family,
but also by the many friends whom he had made through his
Business integrity and square dealing.
Immediate surviving relatives are:
The wife and daughter, previously mentioned; a cousin, Mrs. William
Webb of Saratoga Springs; and several second cousins to all of whom
sincere sympathy will be extended.- Oneonta Star.
