James W. Myers, 53 years old, a well known resident of Gladwin, now of Saginaw, died Monday at Ford hospital, Detroit, after an operation on his head. Services will be held this afternoon at Saginaw under the auspices of Salina lodge, No. 155F. & A. M. Further mention will be made next week. James W. Myers of Saginaw, died August 20, 1929, at Ford hospital, Detroit, following a critical operation on his head.

Mr. Myers was a former resident of Gladwin coming here from Ohio about 1904, and engaging in the poultry business under the firm name of Myer & Chilcote, later he engaged in the shoe business with E. H. Waller, who is now proprietor of the Tamarack Inn at Houghton Heights. The firm name was Waller & Myers. Later he branched into the drygoods line, taking as his partner John F. Englehardt. He bought out Mr. Englehardt's interest in the business when Mr. Englehardt enlisted in the World War. In 1921, Mr. Myers moved to Saginaw where he had bought a dry goods business.

He was married in Gladwin to Miss Susie Hunter, September 5, 1906. Two daughters, Virginia and Maxine, were born to them.

In 1906 Mr. Myers joined the Gladwin F. & A. M. lodge No. 397, and was a member until 1927, when he was transferred to Saline lodge No. 155, Saginaw. During Mr. Myers' residence in Gladwin he was active in social and civic affairs and held the office of city clerk.

Funeral services were held at the South Saginaw Presbyterian church, Thursday, at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. A. J. Preston. The pall-bearers were Willard Walton, E. A. Coan, Charles Oglestone and Glen W. Wagar of Gladwin, Will Hause of Bay City and D. A. Reid, a Saginaw druggist, located near the Myers store.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Gladwin County Record dated 8-29/1929 Column - 5 Page - 5.
