She was employed by the Augusta County Public Schools for 42 years, five years as an elementary teacher and thirty-seven years as a high school secretary/bookkeeper, retiring in 1987. She had been an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft, since 1937, serving as Church Treasurer for over 30 years, Sunday school teacher for over forty years, President and member of the United Methodist Women for many years, and a certified lay speaker for a number of years. Her family, friends and church family were very important in her life. Survivors include her three nephews, W. Hansford Diehl, H. Wayne Welcher Sr., Roger L. Welcher; one niece, Janet W. Cook; nine great-nephews, Mitchell Diehl, Ricky Diehl, Gregory Diehl, Mike Diehl, H. W. Welcher Jr., Cecil Welcher, David Welcher, Brian Welcher, Matthew Welcher; one great-niece, Rita Diehl Burmester; eighteen great-great-nieces and nephews; one great-step nephew, one great-step niece; a sister-in-law, Ellen Diehl and her children, Jackie Ott, Lori Sweet and Sue East. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2012, at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes by the Reverend Sarah Locke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Welcher, Brian Welcher, Matthew Welcher, Ricky Diehl, Greg Diehl and Mike Diehl. Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Roger and Dale Welcher of 279 Gerties Lane, Stuarts Draft.
