Architect Deat J. Harfst passed away at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon after lingering 36 hours, death being due to apoplexy. Mr. Harfst received a stroke of apoplexy yesterday morning at his home as he was preparing to go to his office in the Schmidt building. He was taken to his bed and was in a semi-conscious state, when he received a second stroke and passed away this afternoon.
Mr. Harfst was among the best known achitects of Davenport. He was a member of the well known firm of Hansen and Harfst, until a few years ago when he became sole owner. He was 39 years old and had been a resident of Davenport all his life. He was a designer of numerous flat and residence buildings in the city. Mr. Harfst drew plans for the Davenport Bag and Paper Company and the Mueller Lumber Company's office building.
He was born in Germany May 10, 1874 and came to America when a young man. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. F. C. Bruning, Davenport; and one brother, Henry Harfst, New York.
