Mrs. Dorcas B. Kretchmer, 78, a resident of Ashley, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following an illness.

Mrs. Kretchmer was born in Ashley, daughter of the late William and Cora Reese Bray.

Dorcas was a graduate of Ashley High School, class of 1952, and attended College Misericordia, Dallas.

She had been employed by Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania , Wilkes-Barre, as a customer service representative for more than 31 years prior to her retirement. She also had been a saleslady at Junior Colony, Wyoming Valley Mall, for several years.

Mrs. Kretchmer was a former member of the Ashley Presbyterian Church, where she had been organist and choir director for some time. She was currently a member of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre and had enjoyed baking Welsh cookies for the several events of the church. She was a member and past worthy matron of Ashley Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and was the youngest matron ever elected by the chapter. She was also a member of the Shrine Auxiliary and the Chanters Ladies. She had been a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Wilkes-Barre. Dorcas thoroughly enjoyed her home and family and sharing her many talents with her community as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and fraternal sister.

Surviving are her husband, two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Anne M. Emery, pastor, and Greg J. Emery, associate in ministry, Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
