Louis A Beyer, 77, well known resident of Buchanan community and a retired rural mail carrier, died at 9:30 AM Sunday following a heart attack at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Eddy Chapel, Reverend W.A. Ebertz, pastor of the Jamestown and the Buchanan Congregational church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Buchanan Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Knutson, C.C. Russell, Obert Ness, Oliver Schweigert, John Schaller and Thomas Pitts.
Mr Beyer was born September 17, 1872, in Red Ceder, Dunn County, Wisconsin, the son of Mr and Mrs William Beyer. He attended school in Menominee, Wisconsin, and came to Stutsman County in 1905, settling on a farm near Fried. He was married to Louise Ottinger, who died in 1911. Mr Beyer moved to a farm east of Buchanan in 1906 and started a rural mail route in 1916, continuing until 1936, when he retired. Since that time he had been a mail messenger at Buchanan. On February 7, 1912, Mr Beyer and Mrs Lucy McKeen were married in Jamestown.
Mr Beyer was a Buchanan township assessor for many years and served on the Buchanan School district board for a long time; he was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Royal Neighbors.
Survivors are Mrs Beyer; two sons, Norman Beyer of Phoenix, Arizona and Leo A Beyer, Fairfield, Ohio; three step-children, Floyd Northrup, Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs Muriel Alfred, Burbank, California and Robert McKeen, Buchanan; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister, Fred Beyer and Mrs Mary Cook, Menominee, Wisconsin and Robert Beyer of St Paul, Minnesota. An adopted daughter, Mrs Harold Yteeide, died in Spokane, Washington, nine years ago.
