Thomas was the son of James Moad and Mary Vanderpool.

Thomas Moad, was born in North Carolina and married Miss Rebecca Baron, who bore him ten children. In 1837 they moved to Ray County, MO, and there he died in 1862, aged 83 years; his wife died in DeKalb County in 1857. He was an anti-slavery man and a local minister in the M. E. Church. He had nine children, all of whom married, and a fact worthy of mention is that before there were any deaths in the family forth-three grandchildren had been born. Thomas Moad was born in North Carolina and married Miss Rebecca Barron who bore him ten children. In I837 they moved to Ray County, Missouri and there he died in 1862, aged 83 years at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth Stanley. He is buried and also his son Joseph in the Belt Cemetery, Ray County, Missouri. His wife died in DeKalb County, Missouri in 1857. Thomas Moad was a minister of the Methodist Church, local and circuit, and there were born to them 10 children and 40 grandchildren before there was a death in the family. The grandmother, Rebecca Barron Moad was the first death. Their children Daniel, Elizabeth Stanley, James, Rhoda, Hunter, Abigail Smith. She was the great grandmother of Donna and Billy Sarah Hammon, Nancy Jones, Joseph Thomas and Jane schuler or Schooler. (History of the Moad Family, Written by Eva Moad Carman)
