Martha A. MCMILLAN
At her home in Cresco, on Thursday March 4, 1897 Martha A. wife of James McMillan aged 36 years 6 months and 28 days. Martha A. Brierly was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1860 and came to Iowa with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Brierley in 1870. On February 14, 1884 she was married to James McMillan and out them five children have been born, four girls and a baby boy born February 8, 1897.
She was converted and united with the Baptist church in 1879. Though a great sufferer from such a complication of diseases as baffled all efforts of relief. She was patient and resigned giving evidence in her lucid moments that her mind was stayed on God singing searches of hymns about the glory beyond and saying near the one God knows best God knows best.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Baptist church Rev. S. H. Mitchell officiating and preaching in the theme the sympathy of Christ with bereaved humanly and his power over death founded upon the story of his weeping over Lazarus.
The interment was at Oak Lawn cemetery
The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of all in their heavily bereavement it being the first death in the Brierley family for thirty years and especially does the sympathy of one public go out to the bereaved – band and the motherless little ones so early benefit of a mothers tender care and watchfulness _ (Plain Dealer)
