Myron Dean Niederklein, son of Harry and Hulda Meyer Niederklein was born on January 27, 1931 at Tobias. He passed away at Bryan/LGH West Hospital in Lincoln on December 13, 2001, at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 16 days. He was one of two children in the family.
Reverend William Nau baptized him on February 22, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church at Tobias. Reverend C.F. Schrein confirmed him on April 29, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church at Tobias.
Myron attended country school and Zion Parochial School through the 8th Grade. Due to his father's poor health he decided not to further his education but to help out on the family farm.
He entered the military service with the US Air Force on August 21, 1951. He completed basic training at Wichita Falls, TX., served at Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY., with his most significant duty assignment at Scott AFB in Belleville, IL. He attended Teletype communications school and later became an instructor. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 20, 1955.
Myron was married of Jacquelyn Ann Schilke of Tobias on May 18, 1952 and to them four chidlren were born. Following military service, Myron and Jacie farmed north of Daykin until they moved to the farm west of Tobias in December 1956. In March 1993, they moved to their present home in Tobias where he retired from farming in 1996.
Over the years he enjoyed farming and raising livestock, especially hogs. His favorite pastimes were playing cards and traveling.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served on the council. He was a former member of the Tobias and Ohiowa American Legion.
He is survived by his wife jackie of Tobias, daughter Kathy Hausen and husband Dale of Columbus, son Galen and wife Patsy of Tobias, son Kevin and wife Terri of Omaha and daughter Tonya Wagner and husband Scott of Lincoln; grandchildren Steven Wiersma and wife Heidi of Sibley, Iowa, Kimberly Wiersma of Columbus, Tyler and Justin Niederklein of Omaha, Toni and Tanya Niederklein of Tobias; step-grandchildren Rachel and Shannon Hausen of Sibley, Iowa; brother: Leroy and wife Pauline of Tobias; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Hulda.
Funeral services were conducted from St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa on Monday, December 17, 2001 with Maynard Kellerman, PMA officiating. Nancy Cradduck accompanied the congregation who sang "How Great Thou Art:, "In the Garden, and "Lead on, Oh King Eternal". (sic) Pallbearers were Gene Niederklein, Larry Niederklein, Alan Niederklein, Dale Meyer and Harlan Meyer. Honorary bearers were Cleo (sic) Miller and Wayne Meyer. Interment was in the Ohiowa Public Cemetery with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials are directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church.
