Mary Ann Darling (Brady) Fischer, age 79, of Aberden, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, surrounded by her family. Blessed be her memory. Mary Ann was born June 8, 1933, on her grandparent's farm near Hecla, SD, to Patrick "Elmer" and Evelyn (Schroeder) Brady.
She attended country schools in the Hecla area and graduated from Hecla High School, where she was a track and basketball star. Following graduation, Mary Ann furthered her education at The Aberdeen School of Commerce. She then began employment with Socony-Vacuum and Oil Company.
On May 14, 1955, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Andrew J. Fischer, whom she met at the King Pin Bowling Alley. On September 14, 1963, Mary Ann gave birth to the first set of quintuplets to survive in the United States. While raising her family, Mary Ann baked cakes out of her home. She also worked at the Aberdeen YWCA Daycare, and was a cook for the Senior Meals Program. Mary Ann continued to make Aberdeen her home until the time of her death.
Mary Ann was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose. She had a passion for bowling and served as a State and National Delegate for Women's Bowling, Secretary of the Octette Bowling League, and President of the Aberdeen Women's Bowling Association. Mary Ann also enjoyed playing softball, darts, square dancing, gardening, and canning. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed most of her children's clothes. She made two of her children's wedding dresses, and most of her children's bridesmaid's dresses. Mary Ann especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities. She was a Girl Scout while growing up, and was a Girl Scout Leader as an adult.
Blessed to have shared Mary Ann's life are her sons, Dan (Carmen) Fischer of Aberdeen, and Jim (Janet) Fischer of Fargo, ND; her daughters, Charlotte Burgard of Aberdeen, Julie (Kerry) Wilson of Westport, SD, Evelyn (Mike) Johnson, Denise (Dan) Bahmuller, Annie (Pat) Hoerner and Maggie (Roy) Torres, all of Aberdeen, Cathy (Lonnie) Bales of Redfield, SD, Margie (Tim Friddle) Walter of Phoenix, AZ, and Cindy (Mike) Shorley of Aberdeen; one brother, Norbert Brady of Breckenridge, MN; one sister, Pearl (Vern) Zimbelman of Albany, OR; and one sister-in-law, Corky Brady of Oakes, ND; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Earl Brady.
Visitation will be Wednesday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service. Visitation continues for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.
Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann will be Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen with Father Shane Stevens officiating. Burial will take place at the Hecla City Cemetery, Hecla, SD.
