ROCKFORD - Charles D. "Chuck" Brauer, 64, of Rockford died Wednesday morning, Jan. 8, 2003, in Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. Born Feb. 23, 1938, in Rockford, the son of O.C. "Tip" and Dorothy (Tesker) Brauer. Graduated from West High School in 1956. He enjoyed woodworking so much that his first job out of high school was with Dan Hurd Cabinet Shop in Winnebago. Chuck married Kathleen K. Anderson on Feb. 20, 1960, in Salem Lutheran Church in Rockford. He served in the U.S. Army. Chuck worked for Service Transportation Lines (STL) for more than 20 years. He had a lifelong passion for the 18-wheelers as evidenced by owning his trucking business, Chuck Brauer Trucking Inc. (CBT) also for more than 20 years. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Chuck and Kathy enjoyed their summers in Lake Mills, Wis., and their winters in Tucson. Kathy was his special angel. Chuck's family meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Surviving family: his wife, Kathy Brauer, of Rockford daughters, Karin (Dennis) Cross of Winnebago, Debbie (Jim) Sohner andKristi (Bill) Gottman, both of Rockford grandchildren, Chas and Amy Cross of Winnebago, Clay, Reed and Alexa Sohner, and Austin and Mackenzie Gottman, all of Rockford sister, Conna (David) Russell of Genoa brother, Curtis (Denise) Brauer of Winnebago mother-in-law, Eleanor Anderson of Tucson brothers- and sisters-in-law, Barry and Mary McGee of Tucson and John and Lois Meyer of Glendale, Ariz. several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents father-in-law, Bernard Anderson and nephew, Jay Russell.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, in Salem Lutheran Church, 1629 S. Sixth St., Rockford, with the Rev. John Cunningham officiating. Private burial in Willwood Burial Park in Rockford. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. 1-11-2
