Mary Anna Holtschulte migrated to the Newark Ohio area from Germany in 1880 with her parents, Frank and Katharine Holtschulte. She is shown with them in the 1900 US census. In about 1901 she married Albert Rushley (1870-1909) and they had three sons: Frank (1902-1973), Bernard (1903-1968), and Willard Antone (1905-?). After Albert’s death in 1909, Mary and her sons lived with her parents for some time in Newark Ohio (1910 US census). She married Jasper Alflen in about 1915 after his first wife Augusta Holtschulte died in 1912, becoming the stepmother to his three sons (Harry H, Leo, and Lawrence Alflen). Mary and Jasper also had a son of their own, Raymond (1917-1999).
