Freeman married Margaret Lucille Deboard Harper on July 10, 1932 in Coweta, OK. Lucille was born on June 10, 1910, died January 21, 1998.
Their children are Billy Gene Herd, born April 14, 1933 Broken Arrow, OK. and Dormalee Christine Herd born Oct 12, 1934 Broken Arrow, OK. Billy married Nola Mae Sewell. Christine married L.V. Lawson Jr.
Freeman and his family moved from Oklahoma to California around 1939, they arrived in Fillmore, CA that same year. Freeman worked on a ranch in Alfalfa Hay for about one year and moved to central CA. around the Dinuba area and worked on a ranch, Cattle, Alfalfa hay and Cotton. In 1943 he bought 20 acres in the Yettem area, Raising Cattle, milking and working in a orange packing house when in season. In 1950 he sold the land and purchased 40 acres in the another area and continued to work in dairy, and he leased land and raised Alfalfa and cotton until 1957,when he decided to rase Alfalfa and Cotton until his death.
When Freeman's half-brother Etsel Herd 1900-? left home at age 14, he gave Freeman a pocket knife. Etsel enlisted in the military during World War 1 in Carroll County Missouri, he is listed as a deserter. His whereabouts are unknown.
