Brandon Tad Grover, Jr., passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, following a recent illness. He was a business and community leader in the Athens area for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann; a daughter, Lisa (Dan) Cosgrove of Chicago; a son, Rev. Tad (Janet) Grover III of Cincinnati; four grandchildren, Patrick Cosgrove and Kate Cosgrove of Chicago; Jessica (Tom) Steinbrink and Benjamin Grover of Columbus. Also surviving is a sister, Jane Scheel of Medina, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brandon T. "Butch" Grover, Sr. and Gladys Watkins Grover, and a sister, Ruth Ann Andrian.
Tad Grover was born January 16, 1927 and graduated Athens High School in 1945. After briefly serving in the United States Navy, Grover earned a degree from Ohio University in 1950. In 1952 he began a career at The Athens National Bank that spanned 41 years. He achieved the position of President and Chairman of the Board of Bank One, Athens, and served in this capacity for 27 years, retiring at the end of 1992.
He was a member of the American Bankers Association and the Ohio Bankers Association, serving as the president of the latter. He served on Athens City Council for twelve years as an at-large member. He was active in Rotary Club, Symposiarch, Green and White Club and the Athens Country Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Grover served Ohio University in various capacities including the Foundation Board, Board of Trustees, Alumni Board of Directors and the OU Inn Board, including serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees in 1997-98. He was recognized with several awards, including the Ohio University Alumni of the Year, the John C. Baker Award and the Alumni Association's Medal of Merit. He and his wife established the Tad and Ann Grover Lecture Series as part of the College of Health and Human Services at Ohio University.
Tad Grover was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother, and will be greatly missed. His contributions to his family and community will continue long into the future.
