Kenneth H. Peterson, 92, of Herington, KS, died Sunday, December 9th, 2012, in his home. He was born December 26, 1919, in Burdick, KS the son of Birger and Anna (Johanson) Peterson.

Funeral Service will be at 1:30 pm, Thursday, December 13th, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating; burial will follow at the Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6:30pm until 8:00pm at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.

Kenneth and his wife owned and operated the Gambles Store in Mulvane from 1954 to 1982, when they retired and moved to Council Grove Lake, and in 1994 moved to Herington. The Peterson's were founders of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mulvane; Kenneth served on many of the church's boards, and also sang in the church choir. He also served on the Mulvane City Commission and the Planning Board. He was currently a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington. He graduated from Diamond Valley High School with the class of 1938, and then attended Emporia State's Business School.

He married Alice M. Laudemann on October 18, 1942, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, White City; she survives of the home. He is survived by a son Don Peterson (wife-Gloria) of Camdenton, MO; a daughter Linda Huntington (husband-Clay) of Springfield, VA; three (3) grandchildren: Doug (Michelle) Peterson, Stan (Deidre) Peterson, & Amy Huntington; and a sister-in-law Neva Peterson.

Preceded in death by 2 brothers (Walter & Roy Peterson), 3 sisters (Lilly Strand, Esther Peterson, & Inez Schild), and his parents.

The family requests memorials to the St. Paul Church, Herington, Our Savior Church, Mulvane, Hebron Church, Burdick, or Dickinson County Hospice; and they may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
