Joseph Olexa, 72, of 1 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, died Thursday in St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Rose Marie (Varhula) Olexa. They celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary last June.
He was employed by Bethlehem Fabricators as a steel worker until retiring.
Born in Nesquehoning, he was a son of the late Matey and Eva (Derkatch) Olexa, and was a lifelong resident of the community.
He was a Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a airman first class.
He was a member of St. John Russian Orthodox Church, the VFW, American Legion and Sokols Citizens Club, all of Nesquehoning.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Joseph Michael, at home; a stepdaughter, Marie, wife of Jeffrey Miller of Allentown; three sisters, Helen Mattras of Nesquehoning, Margaret Harverchak and Elizabeth, wife of George Wean, both of Allentown; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Andrew, Michael and Stephen; and three sisters, Esther Caffery, Mary and Anna Olexa.
The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of arrangements.
