Enjoyed music and sang in choirs

Brattleboro, Vt. - Janet Patricia Bullock Dickinson, 78, formerly of Bow Road in Bow, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Dickinson was born in Schenectady, N.Y. on Sept. 1, 1928, the daughter of Joseph R. and Beatrice (Pearson ) Bullock. When she was 3, her mother died. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Matie Green Bullock.

She was raised and educated in Berlin, N.Y., later attending Salem College in Salem, W.V. She later graduated from Oswego (N.Y.) State College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education.

Mrs. Dickinson taught elementary education in the Fulton public school system in North Syracuse, N.Y., and in the Fayettville Manlius School District in New York.

Her last full-time teaching position was at the Ed Smith School in Syracuse, N.Y.

Following her retirement, she worked as a substitiute teacher in Georgetown, N.Y., and in New Lebanon, N.Y., and she was a sales associate at Antartex, a clothing specialty shop located in New Lebanon, N.Y.

Mrs. Dickinson later became activities director at the Silverthorn Adult Day Care Center in Salem.

Of her pastimes and interests, she enjoyed music and sang with the Contoocook Valley Singers, with the Nashua Choir and, while residing in New York state, with the Syracuse Chorale.

She was extrmely proud of her Scottish heritage and enjoyed attending traditional Scottish gatherings.

Her life centered on her family, and she enjoyed time shared with her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dickinson was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin and was a member of the Unity Universalist Church.

On August 16, 1952, in Oswego, she was married to Wayne F. Dickinson, who predeceased her in 1998.

She is survived by her four children, Thomas Subt and wife Wendy, of Cucamonga, Calif., Deborah Dickinson of Worcester, Mass., James Dickinson and wife, Clare, of Houston, and Daniel Dickinson of Plymouth, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Additonally, she leaves her sister-in-law and close friend Audrey Bullock O'Brien and her three daughters, Pam, Emily and Kate Bullock, all of Brattleboro, Vt.

She was predeceased by two brothers, J. Robert Bullock and Delbert Bullock; a sister, Beatrice Bullock Subt; and her companion of 38 years, Howard Hobbs.

Memorial sevices will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Seventh Day Baptist Church, Main Street in Berlin, N.Y. A reception will follow.

Urn burial will be held at the family lot in Berlin Cemetery.
