Robert W. Atkins, 23, a self-employed landscaper from Maple Park, died Thursday, July 24, of injuries he received when he was hit by a sport-utility vehicle while walking near his home.
Born in Naperville, Mr. Atkins grew up in Dallas where he attended school. In 1993, he moved with his family to Rockvale, Tenn., and attended Riverdale High School. He worked as a landscaper there before moving with his family to Maple Park in 1998. He started his own landscaping business while employed part time at Landmark Car Wash in Batavia. As a teen, Mr. Atkins was a talented soccer player and a member of a successful traveling team in Rockvale. Family members said he loved nature and enjoyed golfing and fishing. In his spare time he loved to create art from anything he could find, even making a sculpture from spare wire he found in the basement. Described as compassionate and caring, family members said he was a very accepting person who always was there to help those in need. He enjoyed playing with children, but had a special place in his heart for his nephew, Cameron.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Donna; a brother, Jason; a sister, Jeni; his paternal grandparents, Leonard and Mary Ann; and his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Katherine Wascher. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Robert W. Atkins, age 23, of Maple Park, was taken from us suddenly when he was struck by a hit and run driver while walking near his home. Though he is gone, and rests in the arms of his Savior, his memories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
He was born October 15, 1979 in Naperville, IL, the son of Robert and Donna (Wascher) Atkins. Rob grew up in Dallas, TX where he attended local schools. In 1993 the family moved to Rockvale, TN where he attended Riverdale High School. Rob worked as a landscaper for a local company for a time before his family moved once more to Maple Park, IL in 1998. There, he picked up where he left off and began working for himself as a landscaper while working part time for Landmark Car Wash in Batavia.
