Johanna Schaffner was the eldest child born to Jacob Schaffner and Mary Ehler Schaffner. Her father was born in Germany. Her mother was born in Illinois.
Johanna Schaffner first married Frank Kersting (in 1886.) Frank Kersting was born in Germany and had settled in St Louis, Missouri. The Kerstings had two children: Frank Leo and Helen. The 1900 census finds the family of four living in St Louis; the 1910 census shows Mr. and Mrs. Kersting without the grown children, in that same city.
Johanna's second husband was Frank Bohn. Mr. Bohn was also of German birth. He had been married once before and had children by his first wife. Frank Bohn and Johanna wed 10 February 1913 in St Louis, Missouri. Johanna's family, the Schaffners, had a presence in both St Louis, Missouri and in Quincy, Illinois.
The Bohns lived their married life in Quincy, Illinois. Frank and Johanna owned and ran first a grocery, then an ice cream shop, on Spring street in Quincy, Illinois.
Johanna Schaffner Kersting Bohn passed away in Quincy, Illinois, on 10 May 1935. She is buried in Calvary (Catholic) cemetery there.
