Freeman Jasper Newton Smalley was born in 1849 to Rev. Freeman Jasper Smalley JR(1820-1849) and Nancy Ann Asher (1824-1877). Freeman J N Smalley married Mary Elizabeth Smalley on Sep 16, 1869 in the home of Joseph Payne and his wife, Mariah Ellen Payne (Mary Elizabeth's mother). Certificate #18690094 Book 3 P 64 Williamson Co TX, minister J J Bruce.
Family records indicate that Mary Elizabeth's father (Moses Smalley) and Rev. Smalley were brothers. Therefore, it appears that Mary Elizabeth married her first cousin.
