David and Esther had two sons, John C. (born in 1852) and James (born in May 1856).
David's father was Captain L. Dart. David became a ship wright, a carpenter/artisan skilled in building and repairing ships. David and Esther's son John Creelman Dart became a sea captain, of a whale oil tanker. John married Amy Laura Stover. John and Amy bought a home and had a family in San Francisco.
David and Esther's son James remained in Green Oak, Colchester, Nova Scotia, where he was a farmer, and took care of his mother Esther after David passed away. Esther lived a long life. She was 80 years old when shown in the 1911 Census of Canada.
