Nata Lee Asher
Asher, Nata Lee, died Wednesday morning in Dallas, Texas surrounded by family.
Nata Lee was born June 26, 1916, in Briggs, Texas, the first child of Nat and Bess Greene. She was married June 10, 1934, to Jimmie Asher, of Andice Texas, who preceded Nata Lee in death in 1999. They were married for 64 years.
Jimmie and Nata Lee's family includes one daughter, Dr. Lu Asher McClellen; two grandchildren, James McClellen and Dawn Seaman; great-grand-children Andy, Beth, Zachary, and Jonathan McClellen, and Patrick and Blake Seaman. Nata Lee is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Parsons of Georgetown, and several nephews and one niece. She also had a brother, Durwood Greene, a sister, Mary Jo Pearson, and a son-in-law, Jim McClellen, all deceased. Her family includes a cherished dog, Lucky.
Nata Lee grew up on a cotton farm, and played basketball in high school. Jimmie and she farmed and ranched from 1934 until 1952 on the Asher Ranch, Andice, which has been in the family for 100 years!
In 1952, Jimmie became Minister of Education at First Baptist, Cameron. Nata Lee supported Jimmie through 23 years of church work at Cameron, Congress Avenue Baptist in Austin, Calvary Baptist in Waco, and First Baptist, Kilgore, serving in multiple positions in WMU, Sunday School, and youth leadership. She served as Worthy Matron in Eastern Star. They retired in 1974 to Asher Ranch, living happily with their dog, Mink, until 1997. They then moved to Garland to be with family.
Visitation will be 6-8pm at Sparkman Crane Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 LaPrada, Dallas, 75228 with Dr. James Semple, officiating. The graveside service will be at Andice Cemetery, Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend James Tisdale officiating, and Dr. William Kolter giving the benediction. Pallbearers: Jeff, Scott and Ricky Greene, Tommy Schwertner, Tommy Schwertner Jr., and Lloyd Pearson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the MED Clinic, Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, Dallas Texas.
