PILOT MOUNTAIN, NC ~ Mr. Virgil Sparks Conrad, 79, died Wednesday evening, May 21, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Mr. Conrad was born in Forsyth County July 18, 1923, to Ellis Luther and Nancy Emma Sparks Conrad.

He was a retired employee of the Bonson Co. in Winston-Salem. He was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain and also served as Sunday-school superintendent and elder of the church.

Mr. Conrad was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Simmons Conrad, and a son, Chip Simmons Conrad.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Sherri Lawson Conrad of Pilot Mountain; three grandchildren, Candice Conrad, Lindsey Conrad and Cody Conrad; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Gusta Conrad of King and Coy and Ernestine Conrad of Tobaccoville; and four half sisters, Lucille Binkley of King, Pauline Pfaff of Winston-Salem, Helen Petty of Danville, Va., and Elva Smith of Enon.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain by Dr. Leighton Culler, the Rev. Jesse Bledsoe and Brother Don Collins. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
