Maria Anna Wente was born in Langforden, Duchy of Oldenburg, Germany. She married Herman Heinrich Quatman on February 1, 1825 in Langforden. He was born November 15, 1800 and was a "tailormaster." They had three children before he died prior to 1835 in the Minster area. Herman, Maria Anna and their children emigrated about 1832 to Cincinnati and joined the Stallo group that made the trip up the canal in the wilderness to found Minster (Stallotown).
After Herman's death, Maria Anna married Tobias Dress on May 3, 1835 in St. Augustine Church. He was born December 20, 1805 in Garrel, Oldenburg. They lived in McLean Township, Section 3, Township 8 south, Range 4 east just south of Minster. They had five children of their own before he died on January 23,1850. The were:
