Deceased Name: JAMES A. CHRISTENSON

James A. Christenson passed away on Monday, January 3, 2005. Jim was born February 15, 1931, to Alma and Margaret Christenson at his grandparents farm north of Holden, MO. While a college student, he postponed his studies during the Korean War to serve with the Central Intelligence Agency and upon his return, he finished his CPA degree and completed a juris doctorate in law. He practiced as a CPA and an attorney in Eastern Jackson County and the Holden area for over 40 years. Jim was President of the Community of Christ (RLDS) Church in Honduras, Central America, and cared deeply about the welfare of the people of Honduras. He was involved with groups dedicated to providing educational opportunities and healthcare to people in rural areas there. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Christenson, of Independence; three daughters, Kathryn Lysinger and husband Tom, Lee's Summit, MO, Kim Fletcher and husband, Keith, Odessa, MO, Kara Cole and husband, Chuck, Holden, MO; three sons, Jon Christenson and wife, Janet, Lee's Summit, MO, Jamie Christenson and wife, Aracely, Blue Springs, MO, Jared Christenson, Independence, MO; and 12 grandchildren. Other survivors include his mother, Margaret Nelson; sister, Doris Enke and husband, Charles; and brother, Fred Christenson and wife, Jane, all of Holden, MO. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m., with family visitation from 1-2 p.m., at Colonial Hills Community of Christ Church in Blue Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to the James A. Christenson Endowment Fund used to assist Latin American students attending Graceland University, Lamoni, IA, or to Friends United, an organization benefiting school children in rural Honduras, (201 Oak Hill Cluster, Independence, MO, 64057).
