His father, Benjamin, was a house carpenter and moved to Perris, Riverside County, California by 1890 where Lee's other siblings were born: sisters Carrie Pearl (later Mrs. Knapp) and Ruby Allene; and a brother (who died before 1910). His father Benjamin died in 1906. His mother, Sarah, raised his two sisters by herself, then married after 1920 to a Mr. Miller who died leaving her a widow by 1930.
On June 16, 1915 Lee married for the first time to Iva Belle Jackson in Los Angeles Co., California. Early in their marriage they lived in Perris, Riverside County where Lee was a farmer and mail carrier. By 1930 Lee moved his family to Inyo County where Lee worked for the California Electric Company. They had at least two sons before divorcing. It was in Inyo County where he met Jennie Rosalie Ritter-Norris. They married on October 8, 1934 in Washington County, Arkansas.
Upon retirement Lee and Rosalie moved to Fields Landing, Humboldt County, California. Rosalie's sister, Nancy Caroline Ritter (Mrs. Joseph David White) also lived nearby in Eureka.
Lee died in an automobile accident on a trip to visit out-of-state relatives.
