Died at His Home in Scranton Yesterday
Capt. John Foster, aged 76 years, a highly respected citizen and resident of this place, died today after a long illness, at his residence on the Pascagoula river.

His wife, Mrs. Olivia Foster, and twelve children survive him. The latter are: Mrs. J.I. Ford, of this city; Mrs. E.L. Silva, of New Orleans; Mrs. E.C. Joullian, of Biloxi, Miss.; Mrs. W.D. Hughes, of this city; Mrs. Dr. William Hosey, of Wiggins, Miss.; Capt. John Foster of Mobile, Ala.; Frank E. Foster, of this city; Charles, Henry, and Alfred Foster, of Biloxi, Miss.; and Misses Eva and Belle Foster, of this city.

Captain Foster was twice married, his first wife being the daughter of the well-known John Grant, who dredged the pass leading to Mobile Bay, which today is known as Grant's Pass. Three children of the union are living. He afterward married Miss Olivia Delmas, a pioneer resident of this section. His wife and nine children by the union survive him.

Captain Foster was a veteran of the Mexican and Civil Wars. He served in the army during the Mexican War and in both the Confederate Navy and Army during the Civil War.
