James "Jim" Hensley, age 89, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at his home. He was born in St. Anthony, on October 19, 1923, son of the late Harvey and Mable (Clark) Hensley. On January 5, 1952, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Jim married Helen Louise Baumgartner, who survives at the home.

Jim served his country during World War II as a Navy Gunner on a Merchant Marine Ship in the Pacific and European Theatres. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of St. Charles for over 50 years and was also a member of the First Methodist Church in St. Charles. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren.

He is also survived by one son, Tom Hensley and wife Connie of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Josh Hensley of Maryville and Jessica Hensley of Kirksville; one niece, Janice Madalen of St. Louis; and one nephew, Gary Blessin of Florida. He was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Hensley of St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 12 (noon) to 1 p.m., with services immediately following at 1 p.m., on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Iberia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
