Daniel was born to Elizabeth and Peter Welty. From what I've been able to discover, Daniel was the oldest child or at least the oldest to survive to adulthood. He had at least seven younger siblings, Abraham, Elizabeth, Mary "Polly", John, Nancy, William and one other sister.

Daniel lived with his family and grew up in Kentucky (Fayette, Rowan, Simpson and Warren counties).

Daniel married Mary "Polly" Hendricks on September 28, 1807 in Warren County, Kentucky. Together they had about twelve children: John (1808), Hosea (1810), Mahala (1813), Daniel, Levi, Henry, Frances (1822), Stephen (1825), Elizabeth (1829), Anson (1830), Nancy (1833) and Wiley. (Dates given are approximate.)

Around 1813 Daniel and Polly moved their family to Cape Girardeau County where they lived in White Water and Apple Creek.

Yes, Daniel had a sister and a wife named Mary and called Polly; this does seem a little strange, but Daniel and his wife were first cousins, so who knows.
