Sidney Morton Sr. was born on January
14, 1844 near Toronto, Canada. He was
married on October 30, 1867 to Mary
Ann Beatty, who survives him. To this
union was born seven children five sons
and two daughters; five of them resided
in Frankfort, Lon, John, Sidney Jr., Mrs.
L.C. Monce and Mrs. George Tyler, all
from Frankfort, Alfred Morton, Lebanon
Kansas and Thomas Morton near Wamego
Kansas. He also leaves one brother Enos
Morton, Ohio; one sister, Rebecca Abbey,
Michigan; also one brother and sister,
Alonzo Morton and Mrs. N.M. Hilborn,
both of Frankfort, Kansas.
Mr. Morton had been in failing health
for several years and on July 18, he was
taken to Evergreen hospital in Leaven-
worth, Kansas for treatment. One week
after his arrival there he was stricken
with paralysis. He passed away at 4:10
a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 1916.
Mr. Morton’s remains were accompanied
to Frankfort by his sons, Sidney Jr., John
and Lon, and taken to the home of his
daughter, Mrs. L.C. Monce.
Funeral services were held on August 3
at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend L.R. South
officiating.
Burial was in the family lot at the Willow
Hill Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas.
