Judith Ann Grosner
(September 30, 1943 - August 5, 20
Judith Ann Grosner, age 66, joined her parents in heaven on Thursday, August 5th. Judy spent her entire life on the family homestead in Stratford, CT and passed peacefully in the place she loved the most. Stricken with Polio at age 9, Judy was given little chance to survive, and in the immediate neighborhood, two other girls of nearly the same age succumbed to the disease. Judy, however, through determination, medical science and some luck, survived. She went on to be home tutored, attended a regional school for handicapped children, Stratford High School and finally graduated from St. Joseph's College in West Hartford. All of this while she wore both back and leg braces and was confined mostly to a wheelchair. Judy then worked as an at home tutor and eventually began her career with the State of Connecticut working in the intake section of the Welfare Department. She later became a supervisor in the Department of Human Services, concentrating on improving the lives of abused and homeless children through managed care and eventually the adoption process. Judy retired after 30 years service when her health issues made it impossible to continue. Judy placed family and friends above all, always encouraging, helping and entertaining those in need and loving them all. "The world is a better place and people know (or some may not know) that Judy made it so." Judy is survived by her siblings, George Grosner of Newtown, CT, Anne (Joe) Gruce of The Villages, FL and Donald (Kathleen) Grosner of Ocala, FL. She is also survived by five nephews and six nieces as well as fourteen grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she was close to and cherished. Judy was also lovingly cared for by her longtime caregiver, Lyuda Ligouri, and we also want to recognize her forever college friend, Dottie Lane. They are very special people and part of our family, too. Judy had many many friends and helpers over the years, too many to mention and we thank them all too for loving her as well. All are invited to attend the funeral services Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 9:15 am in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10:00 am in Our lady of Grace Church Second Hill Lane Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will in St. John's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Donations in Judy's memory may be made to the Polio Outreach of Connecticut through the funeral home.
