Carl David Heinecke was an Eagle Scout and attended Western Michigan University on a football scholarship. He graduated from Western Michigan University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kapa and in R.O.T.C. He earned a degree in medicine from Northwestern University in Chicago, where he was elected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship at Cook County Medical Center in Chicago and his residency at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He was in the United States Army, on active duty, from 1975 to 1981 and afterwards in the United States Army Reserves and the New Hampshire National Guard. He served a total of 22 years and retired in 2003 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was called up for active duty during the first Gulf War and was stationed at Fort Devens Massachusetts. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
He moved to Concord in 1981 to join Anesthesia Associates, of which he was a partner. He served on the staff on Concord Hospital from 1981 and at different times also on the staffs of the hospitals in Franklin, New London and Claremont. He started a pain management program, a practice devoted to helping sufferers of chronic pain. He was an active member of the community, having served on the vestry of St. Paul's Church, on its stewardship committee, and as a fundraiser for numerous charitable organizations. He assisted with the Boy Scouts and coached a variety of youth sports.
Dr Heinecke was a physical fitness enthusiast who was a competitive runner for many years. He raced the Mount Washington Road Race many times. He also enjoyed swimming, scuba diving, skiing and mountaineering.
