RICHMOND - Born in Middlesex County near Samos, VA, Lionel Wilbur Wyatt, age 88, passed away August 25, 2004, at The Lakewood Manor Retirement Community in Richmond.

He was born January 30, 1916 to the late Richard Wilbur Wyatt and Eva Powell Wyatt of Middlesex County.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edith Mansfield Wyatt; his sister, Cornelia Wyatt Doggins; three daughters, Rebecca Wyatt Moscoso, Victoria Wyatt Bunch and Deborah Wyatt Upton; one son, Richard Lionel Wyatt; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wyatt had a long career at the Newport News Shipyard. After retiring, he enjoyed many years as a fishing boat captain on the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay.

Beginning as a child at Glebe Landing Baptist in Middlesex County, he later belonged to Orcutt Baptist and North Riverside Baptist churches in Newport News. He was a member of Zoar Baptist for the 30 years he lived in Deltaville. Most recently, he joined the First Baptist Church where his daughter is a minister. Over the years, he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and held other leadership positions. Gifted with a beautiful tenor voice, he was a choir member at Lakewood Manor at his passing.

A good friend, he was always available to help a neighbor and to give his time and money to those in need.

The family received friends from 10:30am to 11:30am on Saturday, August 28, 2004, at Zoar Baptist Church in Deltaville, followed by the funeral service at 1pm. Graveside services immediately followed at the family plot at Glebe Landing Baptist Church Cemetery, Laneview.
