AGED RESIDENT DIES TUESDAY

SPAULDING WESTABY, 83, WILL BE BURIED HERE ON SUNDAY

Complications from an injury he sustained in a fall last Sunday resulted in the death of Spaulding Westaby, 83, resident of Lake county since 1881, shortly before midnight Tuesday.

Suffering a concussion, he was too weak to rally from it and after becoming unconscious Sunday night he remained so to the end. He died at Community hospital.

Earlier in the fall he had been weakened by an illness which confined him to the hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hallenbeck funeral home, with the Rev. Carl. W. Stromberg of the Methodist church in charge. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Mr. Westaby was born at Apple River, Ill., Jan. 10, 1857. In 1881 he came to Dakota territory and bought a relinquished homestead three miles south of Madison, farming it until he retired and moved to Madison about the turn of the century.

He was married at Thompson, Ill. to Nellie Foley on March 27, 1878. She died at Regent, N.D., in July 1926.

Survivors are seven children, Mrs. Will Casey, Madison, Arthur Westaby and Charles Westaby, Orland, Calif., Raymond Westaby, Monterey, Calif., Mrs. Harold C. Bowers and Mrs. Herman Schlenvogt, Regent, N.D., and Mrs. Arthur Wessel, Charter Oak, Ia.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, James Westaby, Alexander, Ia., and a sister, Mrs. H.C. Hess, Minneapolis. Another brother, S.G. Westaby, died here in 1936.

For a number of years, he has resided at the O.M. Ring home.
