[source]--The Caledonian, Friday, May 6, 1864: "The body of Charles R. Briggs was found in Dog river, at Northfield, on Thursday last, under circumstances that indicate murder.-- He was last seen late on Tuesday night, one of an euchre party at a Northfield grocery, and we learn that the body shows a wound, and that money supposed to be in Mr. Brigg's possession is missing."
