Rudolph Balest, 82, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Mercy Jeannette Hospital. He was born July 23, 1921, in White Valley, a son of the late Paul and Josephina (Argenta) Balest. Rudolph was a member of St. John Baptist de La Salle Church, Delmont. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps on the USS Iowa. In addition, he served in Washington, D.C., as an honor guard at the White House for President Roosevelt's funeral. Rudolph was a member of the American Legion of the Jeannette Post, USS Iowa Veteran Association, the White Valley AMVETS and the White Valley Social Club. Prior to retirement, he worked at Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding and was self-employed as a chemical salesman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Brigode) Balest, in 1989; a brother, Victor; and a sister, Ella. Rudolph is survived by his wife, Diana (Parise) Balest; two daughters, Sandra Levine and husband, Dr. Edward, of Orange County, Calif., and Kim Rowe and husband, Wayne, of Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Paul Balest and wife, Kathi, of Greensburg; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rich Balest and Eleanor, of Saltsburg. In addition, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Toni Ackerman and husband, John, of Greensburg and Linda Ungvarsky and husband, Capt. William, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a stepson, Rick Parise and wife, Linda, of Greensburg. Family and friends will be received at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rudolph's Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, Delmont, with Father Donald Mondella as celebrant. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, with military honors by Post 981 Honor Guard.
