Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Army in Providence, Rhode Island and he served as a Sergeant in Company G, 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery. He was awarded the CMOH for action on April 2, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "Was one of a detachment of 20 picked artillerymen who voluntarily accompanied an infantry assaulting party and who turned upon the enemy the guns captured in the assault."
