Death again stalked into the community this week and summoned two resident to the great beyond, both of whom have lived here for many years. The first to be take was Henry Wood, living near Tipton, the father of W. D. and E. O. Wood of this village, and the other was Emanual Gregor, a pioneer of Champaign county, both deaths occurring Tuesday. Mr. Wood was stricken down in his yard with the fourth stroke of paralysis with which he has been made nearly helpless for several years. He suffered the first stroke six years ago and his left side was nearly useless from it. The second and third strokes, the last one striking him about a year ago and nearly proving fatal, increased his helplessness. He would have been fifty-eight years old today and plans for a surprise on him on that day have been made as the family expected to move into a new home that is just being completed on that date. He was born near Washington, Ohio, October 28, 1852 and accompanied his parents to this county when four years old, living on a farm in this vicinity ever since. His boyhood days were spent on a farm now occupied by LaFayete Dunn, near this village. He was united to Miss Lucinda A. Peters on Feb. 11, 1876, and to his union eleven children were born, two dying in infancy and Isaac Loyd, dying two years ago at the age of eighteen. He is survived by a wife, daughter, Mrs. Maud Lindley, formerly of Texas, but just recently returning to this community, and seven sons, W.D. and E.O. of this place, and John, Walter, Norman, Roscoe and Carlos, at home. He was the grandfather of ten. In the winter of 1895 he united with the Pleasant Grove Christian church and always remained a member. He belonged to the Masonic lodge of this place, and also of the tribe of Ben Hurs, of St. Joseph. Funeral services under the auspices of the Masonic lodge were held at the home Thursday morning at 10:00, conducted by Rev. Bishop, of Urbana, a former pastor at Pleasant Grove. Interment at Mt. Hope cemetery. (Sidney Times Oct. 28, 1910)
